You’ll still find an incredible selection of beautiful British blooms at the Flower Market this month, including these zingy zinnias at Pratley.
As well as all the homegrown blooms you’ll find below, there’s also chocolate cosmos, Japanese anemones, scabious, antirrhinums, hypericum, chrysanthemums and lilies, to name but a few! Read on to discover what else you can expect to see at the market on your next visit…
British Flowers
Bunches of dainty astrantia, in white and pink, can be found in the ‘British Flowers’ section of the Zest Flowers stand. Head over to their Instagram account to check it out.
You’ll also be greeted there by the heavenly scent of roses. And there are so many different varieties and colours to choose from!
Proving to be a very big hit with florists whose style showcases muted colour schemes is this gorgeous Hydrangea arborescens ‘Pink Annabelle’. And here’s a stunning example…
Over at Pratley, you’ll find boxes of both bronze and red Amaranthus. And if you’re thinking ahead to next month, check out their Instagram feed for a little peek of things to come!
They also have delphiniums in plentiful supply….
…together with helichrysum, also known as strawflower.
Over at J H Hart Flowers, buckets brimming full of brightly coloured homegrown dahlias are available. Richie tells me that, weather dependent, they'll be around until mid-October. Make sure to order them though, as they're very much in demand.
Meanwhile, over at GB Foliage, garden hydrangeas in autumnal shades can be found in abundance.
World Flowers
Helenium ‘Autumn Fire’ with its yellow and orange petals are available at Zest Flowers.
And staying with orange but a completely different shade, how about these Strelitzia (Bird of Paradise) at DG Wholesale Flowers? Such striking blooms! Check out DG’s Instagram account for more inside scoops on their flower availability.
Snowberry (Symphoricarpos) has started to appear at Nine Elms, with a cultivated white variety at Porters Foliage...
…and a pink variety called ‘Magical Melody’ at Bloomfield. Pop over to Instagram to see their regular ‘shelf’ photos, like this one.
Vibrant cerise asters (Callistephus) with their daisy-like blooms can be found at Dennis Edwards Flowers. Dennis is also on Instagram, so head over to his account for regular pics of his extensive display.
Yes…sedums have started to arrive! Not only this variety called Sedum spectabile in green at R French & Sons, but also burgundy types too.
Just how gorgeous is this Hydrangea paniculata 'Kyushu', with its mini white florets? You can find it at Bloomfield?
And have you seen this rose before with its pale yellow and green petals? It’s called ‘Fairway’ and it’s available at Dennis Edwards Flowers.
British Foliage
Stephanandra, which the guys at Porters Foliage also call ‘nut’, is such an attractive foliage with its distinctive leaves.
And they have this wonderful hypericum, resplendent with shiny berries and ideal for autumnal designs...

British Plants
I’ve been freelancing for the Flower Market for over three and half years now. And one of the things which never ceases to amaze me is that no matter what unearthly hour the traders’ alarm clocks have gone off, they’re always sooooo cheerful!
I can guarantee that every time I visit, they’ll bring a smile to my face with their witty banter. Case in point, Bob at L Mills, when I asked him for a caption for this photo. His reply was: ‘What the echinacea’s going on at L Mills?!’
By the way, have you seen his appearance in the market’s new style newsletter?
As well as Echinacea, Bob also has glorious Gloxinia with their amazing large trumpet blooms. They’re an ideal plant for adding a pop of colour to window boxes.
World Plants
Evergreen have a brand new stand featuring their big specimen plants. You’ll find it adjacent to their current unit and opposite Bloomfield.
In Evergreen’s other unit, you’ll find trays upon trays of mini Cyclamen plants in an array of different colours.
And two more plants they have which are just the job for adding a splash of bright colour are Capsicum annuum 'Karneval' with its yellow peppers…
…and Physalis, with its lantern-like orange pods.
Over at Quality Plants, Cymbidium orchid season has arrived with a plethora of fabulous varieties.

Have you seen these quirky plants with corkscrew leaves before? They’re called Albuca spiralis ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ and you’ll find them at Arnott & Mason.

Sundries
Last, but not least this month, are sundries. And C Best have several brand new lines including these Art Deco style bottle vases in muted tones…
…and these two tone glass vases.
