It's May...which means the start of peony season! You'll find so many different varieties at New Covent Garden Flower Market this month.
For example, head to Pratley for boxes upon boxes of early British Peonies.
British Flowers
That's where you'll also find these heavenly homegrown Delphiniums, which are perfect for large scale designs like pedestals.
Follow your nose and you'll find scented Stock in various colours on their stand too.
Our foliage wholesalers have come up trumps on the British flowers front this month too! Head to Porters Foliage for Lilac, in white and lilac.
Or if you're looking for a way to add lightness and movement to your floral creations, how about Cow Parsley at GB Foliage?
World Flowers
Let's head back to the world of peonies. And if you're ever unsure about the difference between Coral Charm and Coral Sunset peonies, David at DG Wholesale Flowers is sure to help you out. Pictured on the left below on his stand are Coral Charm and with darker petals on the right are Coral Sunset.
For a more muted colour palette, how about these stunning Madame Claude Tain Peonies at Bloomfield?
You'll also find Sarah Bernhardt and Odile peonies at the market.
Wedding season is on its way. And if your brides are looking for romantic roses in marshmallow and blush hues, what could be better than Keira David Austin roses? You'll find them at Dennis Edwards Flowers.
The perfectly formed candy pink petals of 'Wizard of Oz' Dahlias are available at Bloomfield, together with several other different dahlia varieties.
Have you ever seen this flower before? It's called Psylliostachys suworowii and its common names are lambs' tails and pink pokers. A member of the Limonium family, you'll find it at Dennis Edwards Flowers.
Foxgloves, so evocative of an English country garden, are back at Nine Elms. Check out these wonderful Digitalis 'Camelot Rose' at Bloomfield!
Another garden flower, but this time in pink and amber yellow is Lilium Fairy Morning. With its dainty dangling flowers which look almost as it they're floating on air, this is Martagon type lily. And it's also known as a Turk's cap lily.
To add a pop of colour and structure to your contract designs, how about these Allium 'Gladiator'?
And staying with the purple theme, how about the flamboyant vivid violet blooms of Centaurea montana?
And always a sure winner to add zingy lime green to your floral designs, you really can't go wrong with Viburnum opulus Roseum.
Rounding up our flower section this month are very pretty white Nigella, which you'll find at Zest Flowers. And just in case you've not heard the news, Zest's British Flowers Selection is back in stock. Make a beeline for it the next time you're at the Flower Market, as their homegrown blooms are much in demand.
British Foliage
British foliage is in abundance this month and if you're in need of assistance Tim at Porters Foliage would be more than happy to help.
As well as homegrown Privet, he also has containers loaded with British Lacecap Viburnum.
British Plants
Mention Auriculas and the first picture that comes into my head are the wonderful Auricula theatres in the Great Pavilion at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Well, Bob at L Mills has a superb selection of different colours. Choose white or cream for weddings designs to enthrall guests.
World Plants
Proving to be a big hit at Quality Plants are these beautiful blackurrant Hydrangea macrophylla plants.
And these Begonia Rex plants are also apparently flying off their shelves!
Meanwhile over at Evergreen, Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Bloom' are a great choice for borders.
Head to Arnott & Mason for Calathea plants. But be quick as apparently since they started appearing on Instagram a couple of years ago, they've become extremely popular. Just check out the #calathea hashtag to see for yourself!
Sundries
Our mini Easter heatwave may seem like a distant memory, but weather forecasters are predicting the warmth will return later this month. So, make sure you stock up on Citronella candles for balmy evening soirees. You'll find trays aplenty at Whittingtons.
With the Terrarium trend in full swing, if you're looking for glass containers for your indoor garden creations, Ian at Whittingtons has a great selection. Not only the large glass one he's holding below...
...but also a lovely range of Geometric Glass Terrariums in various shapes and sizes.
