The funeral of Dennis Edwards, one of our longest-standing tenants at New Covent Garden Flower Market, took place today, Friday 14 August.

Colleagues, customers and friends at New Covent Garden Market were given a final chance to pay tribute to Dennis’s life ahead of his funeral, when the hearse carrying Dennis stopped outside the Flower Market to allow Dennis a final visit to his beloved market.

To remember his life and passing, all those attending were encouraged to take a flower from Dennis’s Flower Market barrow, decorated by florists and friends Julie McPhillips and Jon Poulsom. The event was a beautiful way to mark Dennis’s last trip to the Flower Market and celebrate a life filled with flowers. The funeral was then live-streamed from screens outside the Flower Market to enable his many Flower Market friends and colleagues to say goodbye to one of New Covent Garden Market’s most-loved faces.

The respect for colleagues, customers and visitors to the market shown by Dennis, was always reciprocated by those who had the good fortune to meet him, and his presence at New Covent Garden Flower Market will be sorely missed.

Dennis sadly passed away on 23 June 2020 after a short battle with Cancer. His wife Judith has set up a Just Giving page for Cancer Research UK, a charity that works tirelessly to help families in similar situations. If you would like to make a donation in remembrance of Dennis, you can do so via this link.

He will be sadly missed by everyone at New Covent Garden Market. The Covent Garden Market Authority has sent our deepest condolences to Dennis’s family and will be keeping them, along with his friends and colleagues, in our thoughts at this difficult time.
